Katie Louise Dixon
Hello, my name is Katie. I’m 31 years old and a 2nd Year Student Nurse studying at my first-choice university, Birmingham City. I am also a Student Ambassador for BCU, a HARs Scholar (High Achievers Recognition scheme) a
The aims of this blog are really to try and help other student nurses where I can, while still being able to keep track of my own personal and professional progress throughout my last 16 months at university (and beyond!) I don’t keep a diary of any kind (which I now hugely regret!) but I still really want something to look back on in years to come, especially once I’m a qualified nurse. Up to now, it has been a real rollercoaster of emotions with some huge highs and some pretty rocky lows, but I do think it’s important to acknowledge and reflect upon all of our experiences. I believe there’s always something we can take away and learn from both the wonderful, positive experiences, as well as the not all that pleasant ones. I want to remember as much as I possibly can because I can see just how much I’ve grown already, and I know I won’t ever get this time again.
On a more personal level, you’ll usually find me near a Starbucks holding two flat whites while wearing some sort of bold statement slogan tee with my head in my phone, either on Twitter or working on something or other. I have no shame in admitting I am a complete coffee, Twitter and slogan-tee addict.
Just to add, if you’re a current student nurse or perhaps thinking of applying to university, feel free to give me a shout if I can help with anything in any way. It might be around personal statements, interviews, what to expect, parenting whilst on the course, finance, mental health, etc. Whatever it may be, my Twitter DM’s are always open to anyone.
Life motto: Feel the fear and do it anyway!
